Wednesday, July 12th, 2017 has been announced as the Internet-Wide Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality. This day of action is a protest against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s new chairman, Ajit Pai, and his attempts to remove the “Open Internet Order” (called Title II) and commonly known as Net Neutrality.
How you will be affected on July 12th’s INTERNET-WIDE DAY OF ACTION TO SAVE NET NEUTRALITY
This Day of Action will be a day when your favorite websites and apps will be promoting the cause to promote Net Neutrality. This day of action also means that your EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR FAVORITE SITES MAY BE THROTTLED, or slowed down to the point that they are unusable to you.Popular sites like these will be throttled on July 12th:

- Netflix
- Etsy
- Vimeo
- DeviantArt
- Dropbox
- SoundCloud
- Spotify
- Trello
- Weebly
- Yelp
- and more…
What your online experience may be like tomorrow…
On July 12th, you may get on to the Internet on your phone (or any device) and find that everything is MUCH slower than usual. Some things will not load and you may see the “Loading Spinner” just sitting there on your screen.
If you are a Netflix User, you will possibly find that none of your favorite shows and movies will load… at all.
Some apps will load very slowly or not load at all.
Some sites will load very slowly or not load at all.
Your email service will load very slowly or not load at all.
You will see LOTS of requests asking you to fill in a form to contact Congress and the FCC.
You will see messages similar to these:
Tomorrow is likely to be very frustrating for you as a user of the Internet. ? This is the way that #BattleForTheNet feels is the best way to get their opinion out about Net Neutrality. Our team at Mohawk Networks | North Country Broadband wants to help you through this day as much as we can, but there will only be so much we can do as over 170 sites and apps have signed up to take part in this online slow-down protest.
On July 12th, please keep the following in mind:
This throttling (slow downs & blocking) IS NOT something we can control.
Independent website and app owners are choosing to intentionally do this and all we can do is to ride it out with you.
We have not blocked you or stopped your access to your favorite sites.
Since we are not the cause of this protest, even though it will seem like there is a problem with your Internet service, there isn’t and sadly, there is nothing we can do tomorrow to make this better for you.
We have no plans to slow you down or block you from your favorite sites or apps. Ever.
No matter what happens in regards to Net Neutrality, we are here to provide Broadband services (Internet, Telephone, and Television) and not block you from the things you like to do online.
Contacting us for technical support during this time will just slow things down even more.
We always love hearing from our customers and followers, but on July 12th, attempting to alert us about Service Issues that really are a result of the protest will slow us down from helping with the service issues that we can really help with.

Why is the Day of Action Happening?
This online protest has been planned by an organization called Battle for the Net, a cooperative project of “Fight for the Future“, “Freepress Action Fund“, and “Demand Progress” and the disruptions are expected to be quite severe. Here is their video stating why they are protesting.
Remember, Mohawk Networks | North Country Broadband IS NOT one of the big, corporate Internet Service Providers (ISPs). We are small and we focus on providing Broadband (Internet, Telephone, TV/Video) to our customers; we would NEVER want to throttle you or charge you more just to access your favorite things online.
